Laura Best PhD
Medical Student Class of 2027, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia
Laura Best is a medical student at the University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD in Medical Science at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and University of Toronto, focusing on alcohol use and neuroimaging, with support from the CIHR Doctoral Award. Her post-doctoral fellowships at CAMH and the University of Toronto broadened her research interests to include new perspectives in substance use and child welfare.
Laura has also contributed to research with the VGH Emergency Department, in the Emergency Department at Sick Kids Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospital Family Health Team, and currently holds the Chair of the BrainSuite Social Cabinet with Women’s Brain Health Initiative. A recipient of the 2022 Brain Canada Rising Stars Award, she has also been recognized for her leadership and mentorship by the University of Toronto. Since moving to Vancouver, Laura has enjoyed exploring the trails with her partner, Max, and rescue pup, Riley, and is excited to continue her training as a future clinician scientist!
