Dr. James Wang is a pediatrician and specialist in Adolescent Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Originally from Vancouver, he received his A.B. in Biological Sciences (Molecular and Cell Biology) and M.D. with honours from Cornell University. He returned to UBC to complete his Pediatrics residency and Adolescent Medicine fellowship at BC Children's Hospital. He then completed a second fellowship in Addiction Medicine at the BC Centre on Substance Use, becoming the first Canadian-trained pediatric specialist in Addiction Medicine. He was a recipient of the Canadian Paediatric Society's Award for Excellence (fellow category) and Adolescent Health Research Award. His academic and clinical interests include the health of youth in care, health services for adolescent substance use, and co-occurring substance use disorders and eating disorders. Outside of work, he is a husband, published poet, and backcountry hiker.
